Spring Term 2 Week 3

This week we have started our topic on Mothers and Babies. We have been very busy making lots of surprises for a certain special person in our lives!

Thank you to everyone for sending in photographs of that special person– all photographs should have been returned by today.

We are going to continue our work on Mothers and Babies next week by introducing the lifecycle of a frog. We are all very excited for the arrival of our frogspawn!

We are very pleased with the children’s progress in writing this week. Keep up the good work! Most children now need to work on writing the 45 key words (see over). Please try to work on letter formation.

Just a reminder, please ensure that your child’s water bottle is taken home and washed on a regular basis. Some bottles have been left for too long and have started to smell. We do our best in that we empty any remaining water out of bottles regularly, but do not have the time to wash 54 bottles.

Parents who have yet to pay this terms snack money – it is a 5 week term so the cost is £5.00 please. Thanks to all who have already paid.

We are very sad that Mrs Slingsby is leaving today to start her maternity leave. We wish her luck and hopes she gets lots of rest before the arrival of baby Slingsby!

Many thanks,

The Reception Team

Spring Term 2 Week 2

We would like to start off by thanking everyone for coming to Parent’s Evening this week. It was lovely to see you all and to have the time to share in all of the wonderful things your child has been doing so far this year.

We have had yet another busy week in Reception (there’s never a dull moment!). We have been thinking about the Indian festival of ‘Holi’, and have especially loved trying traditional Indian foods!!

Thank you to everyone who sent books, resources and photographs towards supporting our Indian theme.

Our topic next week is ‘Mother’s and Babies’ – linking in with Mother’s Day which is Sunday 18th March. The children will be writing about what makes their mum special, painting and drawing pictures of mum and creating something special to give to mum on Mother’s Day.

If possible, we are asking that you provide your child with a normal sized photograph of mum, as a starting point for our writing. To ensure the photographs stay in their current condition, please send them in a named envelope. All photographs will be returned by the end of the week.

Thank you.

Just a reminder that snack money for this half term is £5. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

Finally, just to let you all know, Mrs Slingsby will be leaving on Friday 16th March to start her maternity leave. Miss Hasselder will be returning to work in Reception (after her short stint to cover Mrs Taylors jury service) to cover for Mrs Slingsby for the rest of the year. We wish Mrs Slingsby all the very best, and look forward to welcoming Miss Hasselder on Monday 19th March.

  Many thanks,

The Reception Team

Spring Term 2 Week 1

We have had a wonderful performing arts week and have been very busy making things to do with the “Jungle Book” story and film. Thank you to all those children who brought in their own copies of the book and animals that belong in the jungle! The Reception team have taken lots of photos over the week and these can be seen on our school blog.  www.horwichparish.net. Click on the reception link. This is also where you will find a copy of the weekly newsletter.

Can we please remind everyone that P.E kits will be required every week so do remember to bring them in!

It has come to our attention that some children are bringing juice to school in their water bottles. Please note that it is school policy that children only bring water to drink and we would appreciate your co-operation with this.

Unfortunately we have been finding a substantial amount of broken books, toys and resources in and around the classroom. As we are sure you understand our finances are limited and we are not able to replace damaged items. We are trying to encourage all children to treat our classroom and its resources gently and with respect and it would be helpful if this message could be reinforced at home.

Next week we will be beginning our new topic on ‘India’. If you have anything at home which you or your child would like to bring in in relation to our topic, we will be setting up an interest table in the classroom. This could be an object, a photograph, something found on the internet, etc.

Thank you for your continued support.

 Reception  Team.

Reception Class Newsletter

Spring Term 1 Week 4

We have had a very chilly week in Reception this week! The children have been learning all about ‘rain’ and ‘rainy weather’. Thank you to everyone for sending in wellingtons and umbrellas – after last week’s weather we thought we were in for a rainy one – typical!!! Nevertheless, the children had good fun with water based activities, making wellington boot prints and ‘weather spinners’.

Next week we are continuing our weather topic by thinking about ‘snow and ice’ (we are hoping for the snow the weather forecasters have predicted for this weekend!!).

Although we do not have a specific day in Reception for ‘showing and telling’, we do encourage your child to bring in topic related things of interest to share.

If your child has something of interest which is related to the new topic of ‘snow and ice’, then we would really like to see it/them next week.

A few children so far this year have brought in certificates from extra-curricular clubs (eg, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, drama, etc), to show during assembly time. If your child has a recent certificate or receives one in the future, then please send the certificate into school, ensuring it is clearly named. We would love to celebrate your child’s achievements both in and out of school. Any certificate will be returned in your child’s reading bag as soon as it is seen. We will also take a photocopy of the certificate for your child’s learning journey (if you do not wish us to take a photocopy to put into your child’s achievement record, then please let us know when the certificate is brought into school). Thank you.

Just a reminder that snack money for this half term is £6. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.

Spring Term 1 Week 3

We have had a wonderful week and have been very busy making Dragon masks, dancing with a Chinese Dragon and tasting lots of Chinese food yummy. Thank you to all of you who brought in things related to Chinese New Year. We have set up an interest table in the classroom. The Reception team have taken lots of photo’s over the week and these can be seen on our school blog. www.horwichparish.net. Click on the reception link. Next week we will be continuing our new topic on ‘Weather’. We are hoping for a ‘Rainy’ week as we are focussing on the rain! If you have anything at home which you or your child would like to bring in in relation to our topic, we will be setting up an interest table in the classroom. This could be an object, a photograph, something found on the internet, etc. If possible (if time!) encourage your child to watch a weather report and discuss the types of weather. Please note, we will be going out (especially if it rains) so please make sure your child has got a pair of wellies and a waterproof coat in school by Monday 30th January. Umbrellas are also allowed for this week only.

Thank you

The Reception Team.
